Our wealth of knowledge about all things ocean, coupled with the wide variety of activities we offer, enables us to provide fun, engaging and educational trips for school groups. We currently work with a number of schools, running anything from all day sessions to full activity week programmes. We have been operating for more than 10 years and are fully accredited and insured in all of our activities, but more than that, our staff are life-long, talented and passionate watermen and women.

The main activities we run are stand-up paddle boarding, coasteering, kite sports and surfing provided by enthusiastic and genuinely talented sports people. Alongside these activities, or intertwined throughout, we impart our deep knowledge of our coastline and topical coastal issues to our students. The topics of the environment, tides, waves, ocean pollution, plastic pollution and marine life can be taught as separate stand alone lessons and broadly linked to the curriculum, particularly geography.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Stand Up Paddle is suitable for everyone of all ages and abilities and is rapidly becoming the water sport of choice all around the globe. KA Kitesurfing was one of the very first schools to introduce SUP to the north East of England and is now proud to say we are probably the leaders of SUP development in Northumberland.

We have the added benefit of a safety/support boat; this enables us to provide unique paddle tours, exploring the coastline while utilising the wind. SUP is possibly the best way to explore your local waterways, catch a wave, run downwind, take on some white water or race your mates, all on one piece of kit. SUP is an astounding sport including so many disciplines, which are all so accessible to everyone.

Coasteering is a mixture of swimming, cliff traversing, rock pooling and cliff jumping. In our experience this is an all round crowd pleaser and, as you can imagine, the school groups love it. Its so good to see the kids enjoying the dramatic coastline and making use of the amazing natural features we have.

We are proud to run quality specialist coasteering sessions along the most amazing Northumberland coastline. Most of our sessions take place within a 15 minute drive of Beadnell where the coasteering environment is superb. We have caves, tunnels, rock pools, big jumps and endless amounts of features to see and experience. Oh and of course the 40 feet + jumps at the end if you’re up for it!

Kite Sports

Kite sports is where KA started back in March 2009. We originally began as a Kitesurfing school and have developed into the popular water sport company we are today. Kite sports are still a major part of the business and we offer land based sessions using small hand held trainer kites (perfect for kids) progressing to water based harnessed inflatable kites. We offer sessions that can be beach based or held at most school playing fields or inland open spaces.

Northumberland is blessed with fantastic surfing opportunity for the adventurous. It is home to a relatively small crew of dedicated surfers, seeking out empty cold-water waves. As well as our more advanced spots, our coastline has a number of beaches which are perfect for learning to surf. Our coaches are passionate surfers with a wealth of local knowledge. Pupils will learn the basics and catch their first waves in the shadow of ancient castles; surfing in Northumberland is a truly unique experience and a great hit with pupils.
